Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB)
In support of building Herbalife’s brand as the premier nutrition company in the world, we are expanding our Advisory Board to include leading experts around the world in the fields of nutrition and health who educate and train on the principles of nutrition, physical activity and healthy lifestyles with ‘nutrition’ as a primary focus. The NAB is chaired by Professor David Heber, Ph.D. and its activities are guided by Luigi Gratton, M.P.H., Vice President of Nutrition Education. Steve Henig, Ph.D. is Chief Scientific Officer with responsibility for the company’s product research and development functions. Nobel† Laureate in Medicine Lou Ignarro, Ph.D. is a member of Herbalife’s Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB), which advises the company on advancements in the field of nutrition science. The NAB includes eight experts from the EMEA region. These are Ralph Rogers, Ph.D. from the UK, Marion Flechtner-Mors, Ph.D. from Germany, Professor Lázló Halmy from Hungary, Professor Alla Pogozheva, Ph.D. from Russia, Julián Álvarez García from Spain, Joaquim Caetano from Portugal, Professor Jean de La Tullaye from France and Professor Nikolaos Sitaras, Ph.D. from Greece.

The state-of-the-art Herbalife Product and Science Centre was recently opened at the Herbalife Plaza in Los Angeles’ South Bay area. Under the leadership of Chief Scientific Officer Steve Henig, a team of distinguished and dedicated developers and scientists use advanced technology, including a high-tech sensory lab, to create Herbalife’s world-class products, putting Herbalife at the forefront of producing the best nutrition and weight-management products in the world.
David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.N.
Professor Heber is included in the The Best Doctors in America and Who's Who in America.
Professor Heber's expertise has been featured many times in the media, including on NBC, CNN and Discovery Channel.
In addition to writing over 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles and two professional texts, he has also written books for the public: "Natural Remedies for a Healthy Heart," "The Resolution Diet," "What Color is Your Diet?" and his latest book - "The LA Shape Diet."
He directs the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Dietary Supplement Research in Botanicals, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) - funded Clinical Nutrition Research Unit and the NIH Nutrition and Obesity Training Grants at UCLA.
Professor Heber's main research interests are obesity treatment and nutrition for cancer prevention and treatment.
He is the Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles*.
Professor Heber holds a B.S. in Chemistry, Magna Cum Laude, UCLA, 1969; M.D. Harvard Medical School, 1973; and Ph.D. in Physiology, University of California, 1978.
He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Clinical Nutrition by the American Board of Nutrition.
As vice president, medical affairs and education, Luigi Gratton, M.D. coordinates the strategic management and direction of Herbalife's Nutrition Advisory Board to ensure Distributors have a thorough understanding of products, ingredients and their benefits. In addition, he manages the day-to-day operations of the Medical Affairs and Education Department, assuring all Distributor and medical inquires receive a quick and accurate response. Gratton, a physician specialist in family medicine and clinical physician at the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition in the risk factor obesity program, works closely with Distributor trainers around the world to ensure the dissemination of accurate product information. He also speaks at major Herbalife events, enhancing Distributors' knowledge about Herbalife products.
He has written numerous articles on nutrition and obesity and has appeared on television speaking on nutrition anti-aging medicine, sports nutrition and other medical topics. Gratton earned an undergraduate degree in science and a masters in public health from University of California, Los Angeles. He was awarded a medical degree from Mount Sinai Medical School of New York University and fulfilled his residency in family medicine at Los Angeles County Hubert Humphrey Family Medicine Center. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical nutrition at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Gratton has been awarded Diplomate of The American Board of Family Practice and The American Board of Physician Nutrition.
Professor Louis Ignarro, a Nobel† Laureate in Medicine
Professor Ignarro has made exceptional contributions to the advancement of science, including winning the Nobel† Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1998 for his research on nitric oxide. His work has led and inspired scientists around the world.
A Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology, UCLA School of Medicine, Professor Ignarro served as Professor of Pharmacology at Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans. Before teaching, he served as a scientist at CIBA-GEIGY.
Professor Ignarro has published many articles and received the Basic Research Prize of the American Heart Association for outstanding contributions to the advancement of cardiovascular science. He was inducted into the National Academy of Sciences the same year, and into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences the next.
Professor Ignarro holds a B.S. in Pharmacology, Columbia University, 1962, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, University of Minnesota, 1966. He received his Postdoctoral Fellowship from the National Institutes of Health, 1968.
